About the Roles
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is a professional membership body and a cultural institution which seeks to bring architecture to a broad and diverse audience.
To this end, RIBA is currently seeking to grow its small but vibrant Learning Team with the addition of two part-time Learning Coordinators: one with a focus on school-based learning and one with a focus on public engagement (informal).
Working within small but mighty RIBA Learning team, as part of the wider Education & Learning Department, the learning coordinator (schools) will work with the learning manager (schools) to deliver the National Schools Programme, Youth Forum and our formal learning activities which connect to the national curriculum, while the learning coordinator (Informal) will work with the Learning Manager (Informal) to deliver RIBA’s public learning programmes which include, but are not restricted to, baby events, children’s workshops, over 55 workshops and family fun days.
Both Learning Coordinator roles will be involved in the development and delivery of a diverse range of projects and initiatives to engage people with architecture and the built environment.
What are we looking for?
Two creative, resourceful and energetic individuals who are excellent at collaborating with a range of stakeholders from all backgrounds to develop and deliver exciting, innovative and inclusive activities and resources about architecture and the built environment. The postholders must have excellent and adaptive communication skills that enable them to collaborate with artists, architects, educators and teachers whilst delivering practical learning activities for all ages.
The post holders must have experience of planning and delivering imaginative, ‘hands on’ and informative learning projects and resources. The post holders must also be flexible and pro-active with a ‘can do’ attitude that enables them to deliver practical learning activities with a diversity of audiences in different locations.
Although the post holders will be based in London with 70 per cent of activities taking place in Greater London, the post holders must be prepared to travel to other parts of the country as the job requires (All travel costs will be covered). Some evening and weekend work may be required. Although you are not expected to have extensive architectural knowledge you must be prepared to work with professionals to learn about architecture and to apply your knowledge to shaping and delivering a leading, inclusive and appealing learning programme for RIBA.
Experience required:
Schools
- Understanding of motivational and effective formal learning practices; with good knowledge of the National Curriculum and direct experience of working with schools or in a school setting.
- Interest in/knowledgeable about working with and inspiring Young People between the ages of 16-21.
Informal
- Proven experience of running learning programmes within architecture, arts or culture.
- Ability to work with a broad range of audiences.
In addition to
- Experience of managing freelance staff and volunteers.
- The ability to work within the boundaries of a budget and set deadlines.
- Ability to think creatively, and to develop exciting learning offers with the Learning Manager.
- Clear and personable communication with both professional and learning audiences including teachers, community partners, children and young people.
- Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively to deliver agreed programmes.
- Proven understanding of diversity, how it relates to this role and upholds the RIBA’s EDI strategy.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Good understanding of best practices in working with children, young people and individuals at risk.
- Be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
