Role: Head of People (part-time)
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Hours: 2-3 days per week
Location: Hybrid - 1 day in London Waterloo office, rest working from home
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 pro rata (depending on experience), plus bonus and benefits
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HR professional to lead and deliver the HR operational and strategic aspects of our public sector consultancy firm.
This role requires an experienced HR professional adept at supporting, guiding and influencing leadership, managing change and delivering impactful HR solutions that support the organisation's growth and operational goals.
Act as a trusted advisor and partner to business leaders, providing advice, guidance, and support on all people-related matters including employee relations, performance management, strategic HR advice and organisational development.
Reporting into the Chief Operating Officer, you will partner with the organisation to shape and deliver HR strategies that align the people strategy with the overall business goals and values.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic HR Leadership:
- Work with the Directors and senior leadership team to develop and implement HR strategies that support organisational objectives and foster a high performing, positive work culture.
- Collaborate with the COO to align HR initiatives with business goals.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and serves as a proactive and influential advisor.
- Drive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across the organisation.
- Continuously evaluate and improve HR policies and practices to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
Employee Relations and Engagement:
- Foster a positive and inclusive culture and employee experience through effective communication, feedback mechanisms and conflict resolution strategies.
- Manage employee relations concerns and issues proactively and swiftly.
- Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives to drive retention
Performance Management:
- Oversee performance review processes and ensure they are conducted fairly and effectively.
- Provide guidance and support to managers and employees in review process and professional development .
Talent Acquisition and Recruitment:
- Work with the Recruitment Partner on recruitment and selection to attract top talent.
- Help identify and implement a new recruitment-based platform to help drive efficiency in recruitment process.
- Work with the Senior Operations Manager and Operations Manager to implement effective onboarding programs to integrate new hires seamlessly.
Training and Development:
- Work with managers to identify training needs and develop programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
- Support career development opportunities and succession planning.
HR Operations and Compliance:
- Drive HR best-practices, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate people records and analytics for reporting purposes.
- Manage people-related budgets and resources effectively.
About you
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven operational and strategic level experience in a similar HR leadership role ideally within professional/consulting services.
- In-depth knowledge and experience of all areas of HR including employee relations, performance management, strategic HR advice and organisational development.
- Experience of influencing leadership, managing change and delivering impactful HR solutions that support the organisation's growth and operational goals
- Exceptional employment law knowledge with experience of advising and guiding managers through HR issues.
- Ideally a degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent/related field; MCIPD certification or Associate Level 7 preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with a strategic mindset with the ability to drive organisational change.
- Extremely proactive with excellent attention to detail, administration and communication skills, capable of fostering strong team relationships.
- Agile and adaptable.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with business leaders, managers and employees.
