The Royal Free London (RFL) Group are looking to recruit two experienced, resourceful and compassionate Directors of People and Culture to join our Local Executive Teams at Barnet Hospital and North Middlesex University Hospital and community services (Health Units).
The Director of People and Culture is a key member of the Health Unit Executive Team accountable and reporting to the Health Unit Chief Executive and professionally accountable to the RFL Group Chief People Officer. Where appropriate, the role will be required to deputise for both the Health Unit Chief Executive and the Group Chief People Officer. The post will contribute to the successful working of the Health Unit Executive Team and wider healthcare unit and will be a member of the Local Executive Committee, providing assurance across the People agenda.
We are looking to recruit leaders who want to understand and celebrate the diversity of our local patient and staff populations. They will be leaders with a growth mindset – who choose to see that there’s always a solution to a defined problem – and have the skills to coach for improvement and motivate the individuals and teams around them to perform at a highest level. If these are values you share we would love to hear from you.
The Director of People and Culture is responsible for providing effective leadership and advice across all aspects of HR and OD within their Health Unit and work closely with the RFL Group senior people leadership team to shape Trust wide people strategy and policy. The post will also have direct accountability for the implementing the RFL People strategic objectives and delivery of the NHS People Plan and NHS People Promise within their Health Unit.
The successful candidate will be the lead HR professional in the Health Unit, providing leadership for HR across the Health Unit and lead the Health Unit people team. The postholder will ensure the Health Unit people team work collaboratively with the RFL Group People Directorate, People Centre of Excellence and our shared services provider teams in a matrix and cross functional way to identify opportunities to improve the People service across the Group to improve patient care and staff experience.
The Director of People and Culture will lead the development of people solutions and capability required to deliver the Health Unit’s strategic objectives and operational business plans. The post will seek out and use both internal and external workforce insights, intelligence and analytics, to identify people management requirements across the wider group.
The Director of People and Culture will participate in the on call rota for their Health Unit.
Now is a really exciting time to join the Royal Free London Group. On 1st January 2025, North Middlesex University Hospital joined the RFL Group to bring the best of the NHS to every patient. The new single trust will bring the best of both our organisations together for the benefits of our patients.
The Royal Free Group is now one of the biggest NHS trusts in the country serving a population of over 2 million people, providing care across more than 70 sites in North London.
Barnet Hospital
Barnet is the Largest Borough in London with a population of approximately 389,100, which is expected to rise to over 400,000 by 2030. With a rapidly ageing population, it is focused on ‘ageing well’ – looking at how elderly patients can receive the best outcomes both in the hospital and at home. Its new £6.5 million emergency department provides a modern space to enable it to care for patients on the correct pathway upon entry, allowing for earlier diagnosis and same-day care where possible.
North Middlesex University Hospital
North Mid serves more than 600,000 people living across Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest which is one of the most diverse in Europe. North Mid is ambitious in our role as an anchor institution, and seek to influence more than the transactional delivery of healthcare alone. Reducing health inequalities is at the heart of our True North Strategy.
