Introduction
Our role is to support and advise the House of Commons and Joint Departments in promoting inclusion, addressing inequality, and becoming a workplace where everyone feels they can be themselves and can thrive. We set our corporate direction and priorities through our Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) Strategy.
The Role
Part of the People and Culture Team (PACT), the Inclusion and Diversity Team supports and advises the House Administration and Joint Departments in promoting inclusion, addressing inequality, and becoming a workplace where everyone feels they can be themselves and can thrive.
The Inclusion and Diversity Lead is responsible for providing strategic advice and operational support to meet corporate goals, including delivery of our I&D Strategy.
You will have experience of providing effective workforce-related advice at a strategic level to influence, support and embed change in a complex organisation. You will have excellent customer service skills, building effective relationships with our stakeholders while delivering projects or programmes. We will benefit from your experience of supporting staff networks/employee resource groups to deliver their objectives in line with organisational strategies and help them mature and grow.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Deputise for the Director of Inclusion and Diversity, as required, including on Parliament-wide project and programme board
- Represent I&D on the People and Culture Team’s Senior Management Team
- Lead key I&D programmes and projects
- Research, draft and present papers for internal boards and groups to a wide range of stakeholders
- Develop and present information sessions on a range of equality, diversity and inclusion topics
- Manage projects and programmes from inception to completion
- Lead the team’s responses to Parliamentary Questions, Freedom of Information requests, media queries, and ad hoc internal and external queries, ensuring appropriate collaboration with stakeholders
Skills And Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- HR professional qualification (minimum CIPD level 7), or relevant degree or equivalent.
- Strong understanding and experience of equality, inclusion and diversity to be able to support the business with complex and sensitive issues.
- Experience of effectively applying legal requirements and good practice models (including equality impact assessments or equivalent) to deliver programmes and projects.
- Builds and maintains trust while providing challenge and delivering difficult or complex messages to stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills: the ability to produce high-quality written documents and deliver effective oral presentations on complex issues to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to manage own workload and that of others to meet deadlines and quality standards, including those not in a direct reporting line.
- Role models inclusive leadership, with the experience and ability to lead and line manage a team to deliver business-focused outcomes.
