London South Bank University are excited to be recruiting for the post of Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisor within our Student Services department.
About Student Services
This department provides advice and support for students on a wide range of non-academic and educational needs. The department aims to enable all students to achieve their potential while studying, by providing an approachable and reliable service that students can trust.
Services provided include accommodation advice covering disabilities and dyslexia; employment and careers; financial advice; international students; mental health and wellbeing. ID card support, Student status and Council Tax exemption letters are also provided.
This position will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to enhancing the experience of our students, enabling their success and providing the highest possible levels of support: we are seeking to recruit a new full time adviser to work within our Student Mental Health & Wellbeing team.
The Student Mental Health & Wellbeing Advisers work within a busy team alongside other Advisers, a senior Mental Health Case Co-ordinator, as well as Mental Health Mentors, and the Student Mental Health & Wellbeing Manager, supporting the development of an increasingly busy service that promotes good mental health and wellbeing.
You will be responsible for conducting 1:1 appointment with students with a range of emotional and mental health difficulties, developing collaborative support plans and signposting and referring students to appropriate services both within the University and externally, including referrals to statutory services, including safeguarding and counselling services.
The majority of students access the service as a one-off, but you will also have a small caseload of students who require longer-term support.
You will also be a part of the duty team rota, where you will you be responsible in managing and responding to safety and risk concerns across the week. This might change from time to time depending on service need. Part of your role will include being a Student Liaison Officer (SLO), where you will support students who report experiencing harassment, bullying, hate incidents, domestic violence and/or sexual violence and also any reported students.
In addition to 1:1 work you will also create and deliver staff training and group interventions for students such as emotional health content to be delivered within the curriculum, workshops, and a rolling programme of wellbeing-focussed social activity
About You:
We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:
- Extensive experience of managing risk within mental health.
- Registered practitioner with either the HCPC, NMC or Social Work England, such as a social worker, mental health nurse, or OT, with significant and current experience of supporting service users in mental health settings OR significant experience working with students experiencing difficulties with their mental health in a higher educational setting
- A demonstratable understanding of the support needs of higher education students
- Detailed and current knowledge of NHS structures, practices, and referral systems with respect to mental health, and of the work of other support agencies
